Terms & Conditions of Art Awards

General Terms & Conditions

  • Maximum of two works only may be entered.

  • Entries must be for sale and be priced by the entrant with exception for two categories where this is optional:                                          Te Tohu Toi o Ngāti Rangi - Māori Excellence Award and Ngā Kākahu Toi Hau - Great Wall of Kākahu

  • Entry fees are $45 for one entry, $65 for two.

  • Fees must be paid with the entries.

  • The Judges are highly qualified and their decisions are final.

  • All the works must have been completed in 2025 – 2026 and not have been shown before in other exhibitions or awards.

  • The Waimarino Art Awards Committee reserve the right to withdraw any works as we see fit.

  • Absolutely no copies or plagiarising of other artists’ work can be entered. This is illegal and Waimarino Art Awards takes no responsibility for mendacious entries and ensuing prosecutions.

After Opening Night, exhibition of all works will continue until the 2nd October, open from 11am – 2pm and 6pm - 9pm.

All works must remain in the Theatre for the duration of the exhibition. Purchased works can be posted to buyers by arrangement with the Co-ordinator.

Secondary school students to enter the appropriate categories as adults and in accordance with the key dates above. 

Sale of Work

All money transactions are managed by the Raetihi Promotions Charitable Trust.

Eftpos will be available from Opening Night until 2nd October to facilitate sales.

Please note - the commission on sales charged by Waimarino Art Awards is 30%. Please make sure  to add 30% to the price you want to receive for your work. Works can only be collected from the exhibition by purchasers at the end of the exhibition on 2nd October. No late or part-payments will be allowed.

Entrants will be notified if their work is sold, at the time of the sale. Delivery of the purchased work to the Buyer will be organized and effected by WAA, if requested.  Money owing from the sale of work will be transferred to the Seller by 31 October 2024.

Arrangements can be made for courier postage to out-of-town purchasers.

Insurance and Transit

Insurance is the responsibility of the entrant. Every care will be taken to ensure their safety, but no responsibility will be accepted by the organizers for any loss or damage in transit or any other time.

Rules regarding Packaging:

  • Items should be packaged in a way that is easy to undo, then reassemble at the end of the Exhibition or when your item is sold.

  • Label the wrapping clearly with your name.

  • At the end of the exhibition, works will be repacked in their own wrappings. Only if return postage stickers are provided, the works will be returned by courier post commencing the week of Monday 5th October.

  • All other items must be picked up in person by the end of the weekend - Friday evening 2nd October to Sunday 4th October, from the Royal Theatre, 23 Seddon St, Raetihi between 11am and 3pm. They will be removed from the exhibition area on Saturday 3rd October, to take down and return the hanging apparatus.

  • Any deviations or special arrangements, for example, large sculptures, please ring the Coordinator to make arrangements.

Extra Instructions

Please make sure all art going onto walls has D-rings and string on the back, for hanging. If you already installed those serrated metal bars, add the D-rings and string. Can't get a hook into the bars.

ORO ATUA Taonga Puoro Māori award (2 x categories) 

Best design of Ukutangi: 

Participants will be judged on best designed Ukutangi which will include makers kaupapa of tohutohu design korero.

Best playing of Ukutangi: 

Participants will be judged on their playing in connection to the local environment i.e. playing in bush, by the river or up on the maunga/ or playing as a Rongoa for whanau i.e. self-healing, playing for rongoa for whanau or playing as a rongoa for the taiao. Participant could also create a waiata to be sung with Ukutangi composition. Again, the award will consider the kaupapa korero of the participant.
